Manhattan Psychiatric Center: Controls Over Continuing Medical Education (Follow-Up Review)

Physicians who treat patients are required to meet certain continuing education requirements established by the American Medical Association. In our prior audit report 98-S-75, we found that Manhattan Psychiatric Center’s records often did not indicate whether its physicians had met these requirements. We also identified significant weaknesses in the Center=s practices for approving and verifying physicians attendance at off-site training sessions. In our follow-up review, we found that some of these weaknesses had been addressed, but physicians who lacked the required number of continuing education credits continued to be re-certified.
