Duplicate Medicaid Payments to School Districts and Counties for School and Preschool Supportive Health Services Claims (Follow-Up Review)

School districts and counties may be reimbursed by Medicaid for the cost of certain diagnostic and health support services provided to children with disabilities or special needs. In our prior audit report 2001-S-11, we examined the payments made by Medicaid for such services over a four-year period and identified duplicate payments totaling as much as $3.3 million. We recommended that these payments be investigated, all overpayments be recovered, and controls be improved to prevent such overpayments in the future. In our follow-up review, we found that these recommendations had generally been implemented.
