Management of the Conservation Fund (Follow-Up Review)

New York State’s Conservation Fund is managed by the Department of Environmental Conservation. Fund revenue comes primarily from the sale of hunting, fishing and trapping licenses. According to State law, this revenue should only be used to support the State’s fish, wildlife and marine resources. In our prior audit report 99-S-29, we examined whether the Department’s use of Fund revenue had been consistent with the law, and found that it had been. We also examined the procedures used by the Department in projecting Fund revenues and expenditures, and found that certain improvements could be made. In our follow-up review, we found that most of these recommendations had been implemented.
