Inspector General's Office (Follow-Up Review)

The Inspector General’s Office in the Department of Correctional Services investigates allegations of misconduct in State prisons and brings back into custody inmates who have absconded. In our prior audit report 96-S-58, we examined the Office’s system of internal controls and identified a number of significant weaknesses. Moreover, in the course of our examination, we identified numerous instances in which Office investigators may have been paid for time they did not work, as well as instances in which State equipment and other resources were used for personal purposes. We recommended the internal controls over Office operations be significantly strengthened. In our follow-up review, we found that all of our prior recommendations had been implemented.
