Public Service Commission

Customer Service Practices (Follow-Up Review)

The rates and services of most utilities operating in New York State are regulated by the Public Service Commission. The activities of the Commission are supported by the Department of Public Service. In our prior audit report 96-S-85, we examined the process used by the Department to resolve complaints made by utility customers. We found that certain actions could be taken to make the process more timely, more efficient and more effective, and additional action needed to be taken by the Department as it planned on how it would interact with customers after the electricity industry was deregulated. In our follow-up review, we found that Department officials had made significant progress in implementing the recommendations contained in our prior report.
