Monitoring the Quality of Medicaid Managed Care (Follow-Up Review)

Many of New York's Medicaid recipients are enrolled in managed care programs. In our prior audit report 96-S-70, we examined the practices used by the Department in monitoring the quality of the care provided to Medicaid recipients in managed care programs. We found that, while the Department had taken various actions to monitor the quality of this care, a number of improvements were needed to provide adequate assurance that the care complied with all relevant regulations. In our follow-up review, we found that the Department had made significant improvements in its monitoring practices and had implemented all of the recommendations contained in our prior audit report.
