Implementation and Monitoring of Prevention Programs (Follow-Up Review)

Alcohol and substance abuse prevention programs in New York State are provided by a network of not-for-profit agencies and school districts that are overseen by the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). In our prior audit report 99-S-18, we examined certain aspects of the oversight provided by OASAS. We found that, while OASAS had established performance targets for its program providers, it needed to monitor the providers more closely to ensure that the targets were met. We also noted that some OASAS field offices were more effective than other field offices in monitoring provider activities. In our follow-up review, we found that actions had been taken to implement the recommendations contained in our prior report.
