Child and Adult Care Food Program

In the Federally funded Child and Adult Care Food Program, which is administered in New York by the Department of Health, providers of meals to children or adults in day care or adult care settings are reimbursed by the Department. To qualify for reimbursement, the meals must be provided in accordance with guidelines intended to ensure that the meals are nutritious and safely prepared. We examined the plan developed by the Department for implementing and monitoring the Program. We found that, while the Department has been cited by the U. S. Department of Agriculture for its excellent work in administering the Program, certain improvements can be made in the Department's planning process. In particular, the Department has not developed a formalized strategic plan detailing its goals and objectives for increasing participation in the Program, and for measuring its success against such goals and objectives.
