Financial Disclosure Reporting for Academic Employees

To provide protection against situations that present a conflict of interest, the State University of New York's academic employees are required to file certain financial disclosure forms. We examined compliance with this requirement at six selected SUNY campuses. We found that ,while the required forms had generally been filed, they were often incomplete. Moreover, at all six campuses, the disclosure forms either were not reviewed for indications of conflict of interest or were not sufficiently reviewed for such indications. We noted that few potential conflicts of interest had been reported to SUNY central administrators for resolution. We recommend that the financial disclosure process at SUNY campuses be overseen more closely.
