Brooklyn Borough Public Library

Delivery of Services and Selected Financial Management Practices (Follow-Up Review)

The Brooklyn Borough Public Library includes a central library, a business library and 58 branch libraries. In our prior audit report 97-N-12, we evaluated the Library's delivery of services and determined that services might be delivered more effectively if changes were made in branch operating hours. We also determined that fewer children than intended were served by a program that encouraged children to read. We further determined that books and other materials were not adequately protected against theft and loss, and according to industry standards, many of the Library's books were outdated. In our follow-up review, we found that actions generally have been taken to implement the recommendations contained in our prior report.
