Higher Education Services Corporation - Tuition Assistance Program

Adelphi University

During the 1995-96 through 1997-98 academic years, Adelphi University certified $6,230,908 in Tuition Assistance Program awards. We disallowed a total of $25,383 of these awards because school officials had incorrectly certified students as eligible for TAP awards. For example, qualifying documentation such as a completed application for admission, an essay written by the student, and a copy of the student's high school transcript was missing from some of the students' academic folders. In addition, we identified an award paid to a student who did not maintain full-time status; in another case, an award had been paid to Adelphi but it was not posted to the student's account. Finally, five awards had been paid to three students who failed to maintain good academic standing.
