Student Enrollment Data Reported by School Districts
School districts are required to report student enrollment data to the State Education Department, which uses the data to monitor and report on district performance and to help calculate the amount of State aid paid to each district. We examined district reporting practices and Department practices for verifying and categorizing the data. We found that the data was accurately reported by the districts we selected for review. However, the reporting process would be more efficient and better protected against errors if it were fully automated. We also found that improvements can be made in Department practices for verifying and categorizing the data.
