Selected Procurement Practices

We examined selected purchasing practices of the New York City Board of Education and found that a number of improvements can be made. For example, school districts and administrative offices do not always take advantage of the lower prices available on specially negotiated purchase contracts, and can make greater use of an on-line purchase requisitioning system that is intended to expedite the purchasing process. We also found that the imprest funds available to school districts and administrative offices for smaller purchases and emergency purchases can be better controlled.
