Purpose

To notify the Division of State Police of the new Additional Pay code and procedures for processing Hazardous Duty Pay.

Affected Employees

Troopers in Bargaining Unit 07 and Commissioned/Non-Commissioned Officers in Bargaining Unit 17

Background

Chapter Law 69 of the Laws of 2010 provides for an annual Hazardous Duty Pay Payment to Troopers in Bargaining Unit 07 and Commissioned/Non-Commissioned Officers in Bargaining Unit 17.

Effective Date(s)

Payments will be processed in Pay Period 17L for paychecks dated 12/8/10

Payment Information and Eligibility Criteria

Troopers and Commissioned and Non-Commissioned officers shall receive Hazardous Duty Pay in the amount of twelve hundred dollars ($1,200) annually.

To be eligible for the payment, employees must be in Active, Paid Leave or Military Stipend Leave (MLS, MTS) status on 11/1/10.

Hazardous Duty Pay is pensionable and included in the calculation of overtime.

OSC Actions

OSC has created a new Additional Pay earning code to be used to pay the new Hazardous Duty Pay payment.

  • HZS (Hazardous Duty SP BU 07 &17)

For eligible employees who are in Bargaining Unit 07 or 17 and in an eligible status on 11/1/10, OSC will insert a new HZS row onto the Additional Pay page with the following information:

Earnings Code: HZS
Effective Date: 11/01/10
OT Effective Date: 11/01/10
Annual Additional Earnings: $1,200
End Date: 10/31/11

Control-D Report

The following Control-D report will be available for agency review after processing of the Hazard Duty Pay (HZS) payment:

NPAY770 One Time Payment Report

This report identifies all employees who received the automatic HZS payment. Fields on this report include EmplID, Employee Record No., Employee Name, Earn Code, Grade, Bargaining Unit, Part-time Percentage and Payment Amount.
