Purpose

To explain procedures for processing payments for Continuing Education Teachers.

Continuing Education Teachers in an Adjunct or Hourly position

Background

Pursuant to the Memorandum of Agreement between the City University and the Professional Staff Congress/CUNY.

Eligible Criteria and Effective Dates

Continuing Education Teachers in an Adjunct or Hourly position effective 9/01/02 are entitled to an increase to their base salary based on the service requirements stated in the Office of the Vice Chancellor Memorandum for Faculty and Staff Relations dated 12/20/02.

On the second anniversary of employment, Continuing Education Teachers who have provided two years of service and are eligible for an addition to base provided that during the two year period intervening between the date of hire and the second anniversary date, the Continuing Education Teacher is continuously employed in the assignment and provides a full year of service during each of the two years. A year of service for these purposes is defined as 30 weeks of service with 30 hours worked per week. The same considerations apply for additions to base on the fourth anniversary and the sixth anniversary.

Effective September 1, 2002, Continuing Education Teachers who are appointed to a position that will continue for a period of more than six (6) months and requires them to teach a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week will be entitled to the following:

  • $1.11 added to base, effective on their second anniversary of employment.
  • $1.11 added to base, effective on their fourth anniversary of employment.
  • $1.11 added to base, effective on their sixth anniversary of employment.

Thus, an eligible Continuing Education Teacher with six years of qualifying service will have his/her hourly rate in the program increased by $3.33.

Agency Actions

Agencies must submit a request using the Action/Reason of Pay Rt Chg (Pay Rate Change)/SVP (Service Pay) effective 9/1/02. For subsequent rows, use Pay Rt Chg/CSL(Correct Salary).

Agencies must submit a request using Pay Rt Chg/SVP as qualifying Anniversary dates occur.

For Continuing Education Teachers in the CUNY Language Immersion Program who are paid on Contract Pay and meet the eligibility service requirement, the agency must submit the following:

  • For a contract that is over (including the summer contracts) an entry must be made on the Time Entry panel using the earn code AJT with the amount owed the employee.
  • For Continuing Education Teachers on Contract Pay for the fall semester: If a contract is entered and the employees qualifying Anniversary date occurs during the contract, the agency must submit a request, effective the beginning of the pay period the salary increase occurs, to change the total amount of the contract due to the rate change. The system will pay any retro due the employee.

OSC Actions

OSC will automatically process the retroactive adjustments for all regular earnings.
